THREE Fremantle teenagers are travelling to the other side of the world this month to sing as part of Australia’s most prestigious all-girls choir.

East Fremantle’s Maya Barnett (16) and Angharad McEvoy (16) and White Gum Valley’s Sophie Douglas (13) will join the Australian Girls Choir on a three-week tour through the United States, including performing at Universal Studios and singing the national anthem at a high school football game.

Angharad said she had always loved singing from a very early age and was looking forward to being able to do it while she travelled in a different country.

“I am extremely excited about this trip as I feel it will give me huge experience in the field and give me a real feel for what being a performer is about,” she said.

“I am most looking forward not only to performing and singing in many different places and environments but also to meeting my host families, making new friends and learning to become more independent.”

Maya said she was looking forward to going to the US for the first time and getting in some sightseeing at places such as the Grand Canyon when they were not performing.

Sophie said she was “really excited” for the tour, despite some nerves.

“I’m just a little bit nervous about being away from home for that long and I’m not used to spending a lot of time away from my family and friends so that could be a challenge, but I think that once I’m there it will be all worth it,” she said.
