FOUR ju­nior bas­ket­ball teams from Lake­side and Cock­burn were dubbed cham­pi­ons as the 2017 WA Bas­ket­ball League sea­son drew to a close on Sun­day.

Lake­side Light­ning’s U12-2 boys kicked off the suc­cess with a 51-42 win over Willetton on the back of a huge 14-point ef­fort from Bryce Gi­meno, who was ably sup­ported by team­mates Thomas Vink and Jonah Palelei who scored 10 points each.

It was a lo­cal derby in the U14-2 girls com­pe­ti­tion with Lake­side just tak­ing the 54-51 win over Cock­burn.

Is­abel Tay­lor top scored for Lake­side with 26, while a huge 33 con­tri­bu­tion from Cock­burn’s Ash­leigh Reidy was not enough to get her team over the line.

Lake­side’s U14-4 boys com­pleted the triple, tak­ing down Man­durah 53-49 thanks to a 20point ef­fort from Sam McIn­nis.

Cock­burn closed out the suc­cess­ful week­end with a 74-70 win over Lake­side.

Zachary Watkinson top scored for Cock­burn with 25 while Lake­side’s Matthew Teale scored a game high 26 points.

Lake­side’s U12-3 boys and 162 boys went down in their re­spec­tive grand fi­nals.

At­tadale’s Rowan Macken­zie was named the MVP of the School Sport Aus­tralia u18 boys Bas­ket­ball Cham­pi­onship.

The cham­pi­onship win­ning Cock­burn Cougars U18-2 team.
