Roosters crow over second premiership
THE Fremantle Roosters were crowned NRLWA premiership league champions after a big win over rivals Rockingham on Saturday.
The Roosters went into the game familiar with playing on the big stage, having made the grand final every year except one since 2012, but their success has been limited as they managed to hold up the cup only in 2015.
But it was a new day on Saturday and despite finishing second to Rockingham’s first at the end of the regular season, Fremantle proved too strong on the field, taking out the cup with a 28-22 win.
Tane Peakman opened the scoring for Fremantle with a huge try off the back of a line-busting run from Taiapa Graham.
Rockingham got the next one back before Jarrod Thompson ran through another try on the brink of half-time to send Fremantle 12-6 up.
The second half was another tight affair, but one try each to Fremantle’s Peakman, Bradley Gibson and Delane Edwards secured the coveted win for the local team.
The Roosters had double cause for celebration, with their women’s league tag team taking out their grand final with a 20-0 win.
