New take on Wool­stores plan

NEW plans for the re­de­vel­oped Fre­man­tle Wool­stores Shop­ping Cen­tre have been un­veiled.

The re­de­vel­op­ment in­cludes de­mol­ish­ing the shop­ping cen­tre and carpark and build­ing a mixed use area fea­tur­ing al­most 150 ho­tel rooms, 261 stu­dent ac­com­mo­da­tion rooms, 155 re­tire­ment units, of­fices, tav­ern, mar­ket hall and new shops and carpark.

The de­vel­op­ment will vary in height from four to 10 storeys.

The plan was changed af­ter it first ap­peared at the City of Fre­man­tle de­sign ad­vi­sory com­mit­tee in April, in­clud­ing the de­ci­sion to now re­de­velop the en­tire site in­stead of just part of it, the in­clu­sion of the stu­dent and re­tire­ment ac­com­mo­da­tion, mov­ing the shops to a more cen­tral lo­ca­tion and bet­ter pedes­trian and ve­hi­cle ac­cess.

The amended plans are now out for pub­lic com­ment.

There will be a com­mu­nity in­for­ma­tion ses­sion on Novem­ber 9 from 5.30pm at the City of Fre­man­tle ad­min­is­tra­tion build­ing’s re­cep­tion room.
