COM­MU­NITY News has won the award for best sports pho­tog­ra­pher at the 2018 News Me­dia Awards in Syd­ney.

The or­gan­i­sa­tion, which runs 12 news­pa­pers across Perth, was up for eight awards on the night.

An­drew Ritchie (pic­tured) scored three nom­i­na­tions in the Sports Pho­tog­ra­phy of the Year cat­e­gory, with his ‘cage fight­ing’ snap win­ning on the night.

Ritchie was also highly com­mended for his pho­to­graph ‘driver’.

Jon Hew­son was highly com­mended by the judges in the News Pho­tog­ra­phy of the Year cat­e­gory for ‘Man­durah Ma­rina lights’.

The Stir­ling Times was nom­i­nated for Com­mu­nity News Brand of the Year.

Our lo­cal gov­ern­ment elec­tion voter turnout cam­paign scored a nom­i­na­tion for Best Com­mu­nity or So­cial-Pur­pose Ini­tia­tive.

A part­ner­ship with Sport­sEdge, bring­ing un­par­al­leled WAFL cov­er­age through Footy Ra­dio both on­line and in print, was nom­i­nated for In­no­va­tion of the Year.

In­sights and strat­egy di­rec­tor Guy Turner was nom­i­nated for the Me­dia Ex­ec­u­tive of the Year Award.
