Game on for new oval
IT is out with the old and in the with the new as the Town of East Fremantle looks to revitalise the oval precinct.
East Fremantle chief executive Gary Tuffin said the oval precinct project was established to develop a master plan for the area.
“The entire precinct is situated on an A-class reserve bounded by Moss, Fletcher, Allen and Marmion streets,” he said.
“It is recognised as a high-value community space, and includes Locke Park, Sumpton Green Community Centre, East Freo Playgroup, East Fremantle Football Club, East Fremantle Bowling Club and East Fremantle Croquet Club.
“There was general agreement the current facilities are coming to an end of their useful life and need to be replaced.”
Mr Tuffin said there was a variety of discussions about the designs.
“There was relatively strong community attendance, with over 40 people attending each session,” he said.
“The options explored the possibilities of refurbishing existing facilities and also constructing new.
“Generally, the feedback from participants has been very positive.
“Most people have been very happy with the level of community engagement and the resulting concept.”
Mr Tuffin said project engineers GHD would collate information from the community design.
“They will prepare a comprehensive report for the Town of East Fremantle,” he said.
“It is important to remember this is the first step in what will be a lengthy process that will require more consultation, and the development of a detailed business plan.”
