Em­pow­ered Marani turn­ing heads

WHITE Gum Val­ley res­i­dent Marani Greatorex has claimed the ti­tle of ‘most pho­to­genic’ at the 2020 Miss Naidoc Awards.

The 23-year-old — who is a proud Jabirr Jabirr, Nyik­ina woman from Broome — was among 10 fi­nal­ists in the six-week em­pow­er­ment and lead­er­ship pro­gram.

Ms Greatorex works as an Abo­rig­i­nal sup­port of­fi­cer at the WA Mu­seum and is a staunch pro­moter of cul­tural aware­ness and an ad­vo­cate for Abo­rig­i­nal women to cel­e­brate their iden­tity.

Perth Noon­gar woman Kate­lan Stack, 24, was crowned Miss Naidoc, fol­lowed by run­ner-up Tamika Pon­ton, a 30-year-old Bal­lar­dong Noon­gar woman from Gooma­lling.

The award cer­e­mony was held at Crown Perth on Satur­day.
