Sharks ready to attack finals
A TENTH win this season has secured East Freo a double chance and a crack at the top-ranked West Coast Warriors in the first week of the WA Netball League finals.
The Sharks secured a top-two finish with a round to spare when they defeated Western Roar 6252 on the back of a 40-goal game from shooter Larissa Harrison.
East Freo led by just two goals at quarter-time but a 16-10 third term saw them break away from last year’s grand finalists.
They will tune up for finals tomorrow night with a final-round fixture against another finalsbound team, Curtin Hamersley Comets, at Gold Netball Centre.
West Coast Warriors wrapped up the minor premiership when they easily accounted for Peel Lightning on Sunday 93-35 at Gold Netball Centre, their 12th victory from 13 games.
Comets also secured their finals berth, just 12 months after a winless season, when they defeated Rangers 61-48 on Friday night.
The victory put the Comets four points ahead of last year’s preliminary finalists to earn a spot in the elimination final against Western Roar next month. Rangers miss the finals.
Southside Demons were one of the stories of the weekend, claiming their first win of 2020 when they defeated Souwest Jets 5752.
Jets looked as if they were going to get their second win of the year when they led 15-11 at quartertime, but the Demons chipped away and took over for good in the third quarter.
