Bollard lights for Antrim

- Antrim, NH · Fremantle · Melville, NY · Fremantle

SOLAR street lights will be installed along Fremantle’s Antrim Lane in a bid to stamp out ongoing night crime.

The City of Fremantle committed recently to install solar bollards along a section of the street, after years of requests by residents who cited recurring instances of graffiti and cars being broken into.

Antrim Lane runs off busy Carrington Street between Leach Highway and Marmion Street, putting it close to Fremantle Cemetery, bushland at Royal Fremantle Golf Course and the netball courts.

The bollards solution was reached at a community meeting with a City representative, instigated by Melville Councillor and State Parliament hopeful Nicole Robins.

“The lack of lighting along Antrim Lane had contributed to a spate of criminal activity… and motorists have felt unsafe navigating the lane when driving after sunset,” Ms Robins (pictured above) said.

“While the City of Fremantle had acknowledged the issue, funding had not been secured in consecutive budgets, leaving residents feeling frustrated.”

A City spokesman said it was expected three lights would be installed at a cost of $1000 each.

He said they would be in place by the end of the year.
