This month’s FM is something of a new gear frenzy. For the past few years now, the beginning of Autumn (sorry it’s officially no longer summer now) has brought with it a slew of new gear announcements to rival Musikmesse or even NAMM. This September has seen that tradition continue, with a bumper crop of exciting new gear releases ahead.
First up we’ve this issue’s two cover stars – Pioneer’s bold standalone Toraiz sampler and NI’s brand new Maschine Jam controller. We’ve put these two studio-and-stage spanning tools head-to-head on our test bench, beginning on page 82. This issue features an expanded news section too, to fit in all the latest announcements of exciting gear from Korg, Roland and Spectrasonics.
We’ve coupled this onslaught of hardware with our massive Modern Sampling cover feature, a transatlantic interview with electronic icons Vince Clarke (Erasure, Depeche Mode, Yazoo) and Paul Hartnoll (Orbital), a masterclass on sidechain techniques, and a whole lot more. We hope you enjoy the issue!
