Recording Rhodes – amp or direct?

Two very different sounds and both can sound great. We love going DI straight out of our Rhodes Suitcase cab in stereo (and many classic records were done this way). However, you can really impart your own character trying out different mic and amp combinations (with a stage model especially). Try transistor and valve amps with different mics, then choose your favourite. Or record both amp and DI’d signals and combine them. Alternatively, re-amp after DI recording.
