UK pro­ducer Leon Vyne­hall de­liv­ers highly at­mo­spheric and im­mer­sive de­but al­bum with Noth­ing Is Still. Re­leased on his new home of Ninja Tune, the record is a beau­ti­fully con­structed piece that slowly evolves and un­rav­els with true crafts­man­ship. The sprawl­ing sound­scape me­an­ders with a soul­ful and laid­back con­tent­ed­ness as each sound is given room to breathe. Mem­ory and nos­tal­gia come to the fore­front across this highly tex­tured al­bum as Vyne­hall pays homage to his grand­par­ent’s em­i­gra­tion from the UK to New York in the ’60s. Fuzzy elec­tron­ics, emo­tive strings, warm melodies and ten­der field record­ings play with your sense of space and time, help­ing you to drift away into Vyne­hall’s imag­ined mem­o­ries. His sprin­klings of woozy, deep house flecked with jazz flirtations (aided by a ten-piece string sec­tion) and am­bi­ent re­frains have an or­ganic and im­pro­vised feel, adding to the sense of jour­ney and self-dis­cov­ery that re­mains through­out.
