News from St Benedict
One of the happiest occasions each year is our First Holy Communion celebration. It’s wonderful to see all those excited happy children and their proud families. This year this very important event will be held on Sunday 29th May as part of the 9am Mass. Buzzy bees A very energetic and enthusiastic group of parishioners has been swarming over the church, both indoors and out. We’re all grateful to them for their cleaning, gardening and handymen/ women skills that had the church and grounds looking particularly shipshape for the Easter celebrations in late March. Thank you to all those in the team who swarmed around and did all that tidying, to the generous ‘ bee’ who supplied mulch and, of course, to the caterers who kept up everyone’s energy levels. The team’s work is a great complement to the continuing refurbishment of the church’s interior. Easter celebrations
Easter, considered by many to be the most important occasion in the church year, is when we commemorate Christ’s death with sadness and then rejoice in his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Our traditional remembrances begin on the Sunday before Easter, Palm Sunday, with a celebration of Christ’s triumphant arrival in Jerusalem. As a follow up to Monastery Fete that was held in March, we’re delighted to report that approximately $25,000 was raised, so congratulations to all involved. This significant sum will go towards the Benedictine school building project in Teok, India. Congratulations, too, to John Sheehan from Arcadia who won the major raffle prize.
