Gal­ston Rotary An­nual Awards Night 2016

Gal­ston Rotary cel­e­brated its 33rd An­nual Awards night on Tues­day 24th May. Lo­cals, nom­i­nated by res­i­dents and busi­ness own­ers, were pre­sented with their awards in front of fam­ily and friends, and ev­ery­one cel­e­brated in their suc­cess.

The award win­ners were:

Ap­pren­tice Award - Ja­son Farkens. Ja­son works for Gold­man Plumb­ing and is now in the 3rd year of his plumb­ing ap­pren­tice­ship. He was nom­i­nated by his boss, Dave Byrne.

Ap­pren­tice Award - Lisa Dower. Lisa is also a 3rd year ap­pren­tice work at L'Yvonnes Hair Stu­dio at Round Cor­ner. Lisa was also nom­i­nated by her boss. Lisa is an ex-stu­dent of Gal­ston High School and vol­un­teered her skills to wor­thy causes such as World's Great­est Shave.

Quiet Achiever - David Stock­man. David has been a member of the Gal­ston RFS for over 20 years and is an in­valu­able member of their team.

Com­mu­nity Service - El­iz­a­beth White­man. El­iz­a­beth has been a member of the Glenorie RFS for nearly 30 years and has filled many po­si­tions. El­iz­a­beth is one of the dis­tricts prin­ci­ple first aid train­ers. She also teaches scrip­ture at Glenorie Pub­lic School.

Quiet Achiever - Natham Con­sta­ble. Natham was nom­i­nated for his tire­less work for the Hornsby Rock­ets Dis­able Ten Pin Bowl­ing team. He is joint cap­tain and has been se­lected to present NSW in the Na­tional Re­stricted Bowl­ing Com­pe­ti­tion.

Quite Achiever - Alan Bux­ton. Alan is 95 years young and is very ac­tive in the com­mu­nity. He is an ac­tive member of var­i­ous com­mit­tees at Row­land Vil­lage, he was in­volved in es­tab­lish­ing the gar­den club and golf club. His is also a member of the Hills Dis­trict RSL (Gal­ston).

Youth - Zachary Daniel. Nom­i­nated by Gal­ston High School, Zachary is com­plet­ing his Gold Duke of Ed­in­burgh Award, He is a member of the RFS at Wise­mans Ferry. He has com­pleted his Helms­man qual­i­fi­ca­tion en­abling him to un­der­take emer­gency re­sponse for the boat crew. He is cur­rent un­der­tak­ing the Ad­vanced Fire Fight­ing train­ing. He is also a sergeant in the Aus­tralian Army Cadets.

Youth - Iso­bel Wain­wright. Iso­bel has won a place at the Na­tional Sci­ence Fo­rum, which is a 12 day res­i­den­tial course at the Aus­tralian Na­tional Univer­sity. The fo­rum is for stu­dents who ex­cel and are pas­sion­ate about sci­ence, tech­nol­ogy, en­gi­neer­ing and math­e­mat­ics.

Pride of Work­man­ship - Glin Martin. Glin is an ex­tremely ca­pa­ble and pro­fes­sional elec­tri­cian and was nom­i­nated by one of his clients. He has a great work ethic and sense of civic duty.

Pride of Work­man­ship - Chris Lim­bers.

Chris is an out­stand­ing teacher at Gal­ston High School, spe­cial­is­ing in Chem­istry and Physics. He has been in­stru­men­tal in the suc­cess of the Smart Link class at Gal­ston, where year 10 stu­dents, who wish to tran­si­tion from school to work, par­tic­i­pate in a mod­i­fied cur­ricu­lum for three days a week and en­gage in work ex­pe­ri­ence and job readi­ness pro­grams for two days per week

Small Busi­ness - Glenorie RSL Club.

The re­cent ren­o­va­tions have trans­formed the club into a mod­ern invit­ing venue. Membership has in­creased, and the RSL spon­sors many lo­cal sport­ing clubs. The Glenorie RSL holds one of the best AN­ZAC cer­e­monies in the dis­trict.

Small Busi­ness - Phoenix Dance Stu­dios.

Formed in 2013, lo­cal owner Candice has grown her dance stu­dio to over 250 stu­dents, em­ploy­ing nine teachers in four lo­ca­tions. Candice is in­spir­ing, in­still­ing con­fi­dence, re­spect and a sense of re­spon­si­bil­ity in the young peo­ple un­der her tute­lage.
