Galston Rotary Annual Awards Night 2016
Galston Rotary celebrated its 33rd Annual Awards night on Tuesday 24th May. Locals, nominated by residents and business owners, were presented with their awards in front of family and friends, and everyone celebrated in their success.
The award winners were:
Apprentice Award - Jason Farkens. Jason works for Goldman Plumbing and is now in the 3rd year of his plumbing apprenticeship. He was nominated by his boss, Dave Byrne.
Apprentice Award - Lisa Dower. Lisa is also a 3rd year apprentice work at L'Yvonnes Hair Studio at Round Corner. Lisa was also nominated by her boss. Lisa is an ex-student of Galston High School and volunteered her skills to worthy causes such as World's Greatest Shave.
Quiet Achiever - David Stockman. David has been a member of the Galston RFS for over 20 years and is an invaluable member of their team.
Community Service - Elizabeth Whiteman. Elizabeth has been a member of the Glenorie RFS for nearly 30 years and has filled many positions. Elizabeth is one of the districts principle first aid trainers. She also teaches scripture at Glenorie Public School.
Quiet Achiever - Natham Constable. Natham was nominated for his tireless work for the Hornsby Rockets Disable Ten Pin Bowling team. He is joint captain and has been selected to present NSW in the National Restricted Bowling Competition.
Quite Achiever - Alan Buxton. Alan is 95 years young and is very active in the community. He is an active member of various committees at Rowland Village, he was involved in establishing the garden club and golf club. His is also a member of the Hills District RSL (Galston).
Youth - Zachary Daniel. Nominated by Galston High School, Zachary is completing his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, He is a member of the RFS at Wisemans Ferry. He has completed his Helmsman qualification enabling him to undertake emergency response for the boat crew. He is current undertaking the Advanced Fire Fighting training. He is also a sergeant in the Australian Army Cadets.
Youth - Isobel Wainwright. Isobel has won a place at the National Science Forum, which is a 12 day residential course at the Australian National University. The forum is for students who excel and are passionate about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Pride of Workmanship - Glin Martin. Glin is an extremely capable and professional electrician and was nominated by one of his clients. He has a great work ethic and sense of civic duty.
Pride of Workmanship - Chris Limbers.
Chris is an outstanding teacher at Galston High School, specialising in Chemistry and Physics. He has been instrumental in the success of the Smart Link class at Galston, where year 10 students, who wish to transition from school to work, participate in a modified curriculum for three days a week and engage in work experience and job readiness programs for two days per week
Small Business - Glenorie RSL Club.
The recent renovations have transformed the club into a modern inviting venue. Membership has increased, and the RSL sponsors many local sporting clubs. The Glenorie RSL holds one of the best ANZAC ceremonies in the district.
Small Business - Phoenix Dance Studios.
Formed in 2013, local owner Candice has grown her dance studio to over 250 students, employing nine teachers in four locations. Candice is inspiring, instilling confidence, respect and a sense of responsibility in the young people under her tutelage.
