News from UnitingCare Galston Early Learning Centre
Our local community have played a great part in our Educational Program throughout the month of April. Only a few weeks ago we contacted the Galston Fire Brigade due to a re-occurring interest in drawing fire trucks and discussing how to put out fires in our preschool room. After organising a time, some of our local fire fighters from Galston Fire Brigade volunteered to come and visit the centre with their fire truck. This experience allowed the children to meet some of the local fire fighters as well as participate in some hands on provisions.
The anticipation began to build as the fire brigade let off their sirens upon arrival and shorty after we welcomed the fire fighters to our centre. The children participated in a discussion regarding fire safety and the importance of understanding what actions we need to do in case of a fire. This led to a physical activity which taught the children to stop, drop and roll!
After our little seminar, we headed out to the truck. We even had the opportunity to climb up into the truck and listen to the fireman discuss the importance of why they need to wear their special uniforms and helmets. Finally we moved to the back of the truck where the hose was set up with a pretend fire. Each child was able to put on their fire fighter uniform and hold on to the hose to extinguish the pretend fire.
On behalf of all the children and educators here at Galston Early Learning Centre we would like to thank the volunteer Fire Fighters who gave up their Thursday morning to educate the children on fire safety.
If you would like to come and have a look at the centre or ask any questions regarding our Educational Program please feel free to contact the Centre Director Daniela Balmer on 9653 1475.
