Letter to the editor

Galston, Glenorie and Hills Rural News - - Letters To The Editor -

I was dismayed, shocked and angered to see that you allowed the coalition for marriage to place a full page ad in the middle of the school section of your magazine and tagged as "school news".

While I appreciate that you might value the contribution that a full page ad might give to your business, the marriage equality campaign has absolutely nothing to do with schools and education and this ad is misleading and damaging.

I expect that even where there is an offer of a full page ad, editors would consider what is being advertised including its appropriateness to be advertised, particularly in the school pages and exercise their discretion to refuse such an ad, especially in circumstances where this ad has no relationship at all with the issue at hand, that is, marriage equality and not the safe schools program.

You may have received some money but at what cost? As a parent with young children in our local schools, I am outraged.

Regards, PDavis
