Hundreds of minor improvements over a year-long stretch bring this addictive strategy title closer to the exacting virtual board game Firaxis always envisioned. For instance, tweaks to win conditions make AI more competitive in Science and Tourism, there are vital adjustments to relationship decay rates, and AI negotiate better mutual deals. There’s been a visual patch adding DirectX 12 support for higher frame rates, lower input latency, and higher image quality. UI reworks are a welcome improvement too.
Premium expansions add leaders from Africa, Persia, south-east Asia, Poland, and more. The Viking pack is very svalr (that’s Old Norse for ‘cool’), offering natural wonders Eyjafjallajökull and the Giant’s Causeway, and a Dark Ages Scenario. Most requested, though, is the ‘screw it, let’s go again’ button, letting you restart matches while keeping settings intact – useful if you’re getting your grunnr kicked (that’s Old Norse for ‘bottom’).
