Lost Words is a narrative adventure set between the pages of a diary and the fantasy land of Estoria. It features a story written by Rhianna Pratchett and ties the narrative into the gameplay in an unusual way, by having the player running on and interacting with words to solve puzzles.

Players explore the diary of young, aspiring writer Izzy and help her weave her tale about the fantasy world of Estoria, which the player then gets to live out – taking on the role of a young adventurer desperately questing to save her village.

In this world you can use the actual words Izzy’s written to affect your environment, such as burning obstacles out of your way using the word ‘fire’, or using the word ‘hope’ to illuminate your way through dark caverns. At certain points you make choices by dragging different words into place, such as choosing the name of the protagonist in the fantasy world, and these affect the whole story. Each chapter in the game begins in the diary and then transitions into Estoria.
