Undertale is like an early ’90s JRPG from an alternate universe. Everything you’d expect is present and correct, but every element is a couple of notches left of the norm. Perhaps the most obvious example is the game’s approach to combat – it’s entirely possible, and perhaps even desirable, to play the game without killing any of
the your monsters way to victory you encounter, rather than flirting hurting them. Mess things up and try to undo your mistake by loading an old save, and the game will know and berate you for it. This is just one of the ways Undertale surprises and subverts expectations – we’ll leave you to discover all the rest for yourself.
