I have eureka kikuyu grass growing in my backyard and it is spreading into my vegie patch. It's a big problem in summer as it grows and spreads a lot. What can I do to control this?
Elizabeth Swane says
Kikuyu is a fast-growing grass that spreads via runners – good for a lawn in warm areas, but not so good when the runners get into your garden beds. In the vegie patch the best control is to dig it out, removing all of the runners, or smother with newspaper or use an organic weed control.
There are also root-control barriers available, which are buried in the ground to stop the runners getting under the edge of the bed.
