Tidy up salvias

Gardening Australia - - YOUR PLANNER -

Salvias are the stalwarts of the summer border display, flowering to their absolute limit throughout the season in shades of blue, lavender, scarlet and crimson. Often their incredible enthusiasm needs just a little direction to ensure a perfect performance. As their petals drop, give them a little trim at the tips to remove spent flowers and keep them tidy. This also helps to bring on the next generation of blooms. Follow up every few weeks with an application of a liquid fertiliser. If there is a dry spell and they look like they need a lift, give the roots a good soaking.
