Gatton Star - - NEWS FUNDRAISER -

AS the sun set over Murphys Creek, the race was on to raise vital funds for children’s health.

The plight of Rydar Hinz, and many other sick children in the Toowoomba Hospital, was brought to the fore on Saturday as about 100 riders saddled up to compete in the annual Fossil Downs Bush Barrel Races.

It was the second year the event was held, with all proceeds going towards the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation to improve children’s health services.

The event was created by Mick and Vanessa Hinz after their son, Rydar, was diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia shortly after birth.

The condition, which is an inherited disorder of the adrenal gland, means Rydar will be on medication for the rest of his life.

It was a special night, with more than $2500 raised for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.

Rydar even got in on the action to win the U5 barrel race during the event.

Kristy Banks won the open barrel racing class.
