Laidley show dogs can jump

Gatton Star - - NEWS -

OWNERS of the best dog jumpers of the region are being asked to enter their talented pooch into this years’ Laidley Show dog jumping competition.

While only in its fourth year and a relatively new part of the show, dog jumping has become a popular country show highlight.

Show society president Craig Wass said the more dog jumping entrants the better in terms of crowd entertainment on the show Saturday evening.

“It’s a real bit of fun to watch, last years’ winning dog jumped an astonishing 2.5m,” he said.

“Any dog can be entered, it’s free entry and there’s prize money to be won.

“The world record for dog jumping is around three metres. But our jumps start at about 1.2m, so in terms of training, start around there and work them up.”

Along with the dog jumping, the traditional truck pull event will be back again at this years’ show.

“We are looking for about three or four teams of eight men or women for the truck pull,” he said.

“It’s a great event to watch, because it’s basically a timed tug-o-war. There’s a set distance and the fastest team to the finish line wins.

“It’s for anyone who wants put a team together, be it the local footy club or one of the pubs.”

Mr Wass said if anyone was interested to nominate their truck pull team early.

“We are also looking for a truck pull sponsor,” he said.

“Country shows are an event that bring us all together as a community, the more community support the more we can put into the grounds and into the show.”
