Gatton Star - - LIFE -

PRIMARY school students from across Somerset got the chance to explore everything science with just under 500 youngsters gathering for the Minden State School Science Fair.

Kids got a chance to see Rocket Man Ari Piirainen launch several rockets on the school oval, checked out a host of stalls featuring everything from robotics to geology before finishing the day with a balloon powered car competition.

Minden State School Science and Digital Technology Facilitator Jenni Einam said the day was used as a celebration of science.

“In small schools we can’t often afford to get some of the things to come into us (on a regular basis) but by having it here I’m able to have all the schools come in and participate,” Mrs Einam said.

“We’re just trying to make it accessible to children, a lot of them never go to Brisbane so would never go to a science fair.”

In her role at the school, Mrs Einam wanted to foster a love for science.

“I try to do a lot of hands-on stuff,” she said.
