Laidley springs to life for three-day celebration
READY TO ROLL: Chase Olsen gets in on the action at the 2017 Laidley Spring Festival grand parade.
PEOPLE lined Patrick St in Laidley on Saturday to welcome spring in grand style.
The 2017 Laidley Spring Festival grand parade capped off the celebration of the new season in fitting fashion.
The street parade on Saturday morning was a crowd-pleaser and the sun was shining as vehicles of all shapes, sizes and vintages rolled through town.
The Lockyer Valley Cheerleaders were named Grand Champions of the parade for their float.
Lockyer Valley Mayor Tanya Milligan said the whole festival proved a big success, kicking off on Thursday and coming to an end at the weekend.
“Businesses told me that town was very busy over the festival days, there were plenty of buses and visitors, the weather was divine and crowds stayed after the parade,” Cr Milligan said.
With poor weather conditions putting a dampener on proceedings last year, it was a welcome sight to see the sun shining.
“This year we took a gamble and tried an earlier parade time and on feedback I received, this was a success,” Cr Milligan said.
“It was really great after the parade to see so many families stay and just enjoy the festival, enjoy our hospitality and soak up the weather.”
Voice Kids Australia winner and Australia’s 2016 Junior Eurovision representative Alexa Curtis made her entrance during the parade and later performed to complement the many family-friendly stalls and activities at the Laidley Recreation Reserve.
“There are people that are out on picnic rugs that have just gone to one of the local stalls, just eating and having a great day out,” Cr Milligan said.
“That’s what it’s about. “It’s a great opportunity to celebrate everything wonderful about spring.”
