Another cracking Junior Cattle Camp at Toogoolawah
THE LAST weekend of the September holidays saw 60 eager participants converge on the Toogoolawah Showgrounds for the second Annual Toogoolawah Junior Cattle Camp.
There was a great mix of kids across all age groups with 21 Juniors (8 – 12 years), 25 Intermediates (13 – 15 years) and 14 Seniors (16 – 25 years).
Friday started off with the ‘meet and greet’ followed by great information talks, practical instructions and demonstrations and Barnyard Olympics.
Saturday morning saw more parading practice and a great talk followed by the Stud and Prime Cattle judging.
On Saturday night about 200 people went into the auction at the Charity Dinner and Auction.
The Charity Auction was very successful with over $9800 being raised on the night.
For the first time, there was an Auctioneers competition which was sponsored by Shepherdson and Boyd and was judged by Mr Vince O’brien. The competition saw 19 keen participants provide plenty of entertainment for the audience. Hunter Haynes took out the competition with Clay Lawson receiving the Highly Commended prize and Peter Coleman taking out the Encouragement award.
The Paraders competition was on Sunday morning with Mr Brent Evans of Jen-daview Limousins, Kingaroy judging the event. All of the participants did a fantastic job and competed very well. The final for the Grand Champion parader came down to the Junior Champion – Hunter Haynes, the Intermediate Champion – Kiara Hughes and the Senior Champion – Katherine Rose with the Champion prize going to the Junior Parader – Hunter Haynes. When announcing the grand champions Mr Evans said he liked the way Hunter led the young bull with so much ease.
“He is so confident in himself and it flows straight through to the bull,” he said. Results for the Junior Camp:
