More rain on the way

Gatton Star - - NEWS -

JUST like the rest of the south-east of Queensland, the Lockyer Valley got a much-needed soaking over the past week, receiving between 50-100mm of rain in the past seven days.

Gatton itself received 63mm during that period.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist James Thompson said while the wet weather would ease up across the region by Thursday, more storms are expected for the weekend.

“It’s easing off a little bit over the next couple of days,” Mr Thompson said.

“Mostly on the weekend, we could get a little bit more through the south-east, maybe in excess of 10mm.

“But if there is a bigger shower or thunderstorm, it could mean quite a bit more than that.”

It has been heavier elsewhere in the state, with Hervey Bay and Bundaberg recording their wettest Octobers on record.

A 67-year-old man was found dead inside his car after being swept away by flood waters near Gympie on Monday night.
