Val­leys to get boost with grants

THE Lock­yer and Som­er­set re­gion will get a share in $60 mil­lion worth of in­fras­truc­ture grants, the State Gov­ern­ment has re­vealed.

Toowoomba and Gat­ton re­gions were among those ap­proved for grants of more than $1.8 mil­lion for lo­cal in­fras­truc­ture projects.

Gat­ton Show­ground en­ergy re­duc­tion works and bridge re­place­ment and strength­en­ing were among projects to be funded across three coun­cil ar­eas through the $60 mil­lion Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Grants and Sub­si­dies Pro­gram.

Gov­ern­ment Min­is­ter Mark Furner said the projects would cre­ate an es­ti­mated 94 full-time equiv­a­lent jobs and boost lo­cal eco­nomic ac­tiv­ity.

■ Lock­yer Val­ley Re­gional Coun­cil got $305,777 to re­duce en­ergy costs at Gat­ton Show­grounds as part of the coun­cil’s En­ergy Re­duc­tion Strategy.

■ Som­er­set Re­gional Coun­cil re­ceived $226,721 to strengthen Bris­bane River bridges at Moore and Ful­ham and re­place the Mu­ram­bah Creek Bridge at Mon­sil­dale, and $11,627 to build a stor­age fa­cil­ity ad­ja­cent to Kil­coy In­door Sports Cen­tre.
