Valleys to get boost with grants
THE Lockyer and Somerset region will get a share in $60 million worth of infrastructure grants, the State Government has revealed.
Toowoomba and Gatton regions were among those approved for grants of more than $1.8 million for local infrastructure projects.
Gatton Showground energy reduction works and bridge replacement and strengthening were among projects to be funded across three council areas through the $60 million Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
Government Minister Mark Furner said the projects would create an estimated 94 full-time equivalent jobs and boost local economic activity.
■ Lockyer Valley Regional Council got $305,777 to reduce energy costs at Gatton Showgrounds as part of the council’s Energy Reduction Strategy.
■ Somerset Regional Council received $226,721 to strengthen Brisbane River bridges at Moore and Fulham and replace the Murambah Creek Bridge at Monsildale, and $11,627 to build a storage facility adjacent to Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre.
