Funding smart farm solutions

Gatton Star - - INTO RURAL -

GOT a great idea on how to get more out of your farm but need a boost to move things past the planning phase and into practice?

Innovative local organisations and individuals can now apply for grants of up to $4 million to implement sustainable land management practices.

Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz said the grants were available through the National Landcare Program’s new $60 million Smart Farming Partnerships.

“I encourage primary producers though farming systems and natural resource management groups to put their heads together and develop project ideas to create the next generation of farming,” Mr Buchholz said.

“These grants would support the development, trialling and implementation of next generation farming, forestry and fishing practices in our local region.”

Multiyear grants of between $250,000 and $4 million are available for help groups of organisations and individuals to come up with, or take advantage of the next great idea.

Mr Buchholz said having healthy and productive soils, biodiversity and vegetation benefits local farmers, communities and consumers.

“The grants will help groups of organisations to come up with, or take advantage of the next great idea, the benefits of which can be shared across the local community and the world,” Mr Buchholz said.

“I know that our local farmers are innovators, and I’m glad to part of a government supporting that innovative thinking to help local farmers continue to farm smarter, not harder.”
