Skoda Kodiaq, from $42,990
is hunting big game with its new seven-seat SUV. The allwheel-drive Kodiaq is powered by a 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo matched to seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for claimed fuel use of 7.6L/100km. There’s a 140kW/400Nm turbo diesel due before the end of the year. Pricing petrol version starts at $42,990; just $500 more than a base Mazda CX-9 and $4500 cheaper an entry Kluger AWD. The Kodiaq gets nine airbags, city-speed autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, LED headlamps, dualzone aircon, power tailgate and eight-inch infotainment screen with satnav Android/Apple mirroring. Metallic paint adds $700, a sunroof $1900. The $2500 tech pack option bundles adaptive chassis control linked to the driving mode, 10-speaker Canton audio, automated parking assist and an off-road
program. Those with a luxury bias can drop $4900 on kit that includes blind-spot lane departure warnings, rear cross-traffic alert, leather upholstery, ventilated power front seats, heated front and rear surround-view camera three-zone aircon.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain, from $109,900 The all-wheel drive wagon is such a niche product there will one specification only when it goes on sale later this month. Based the E220d, it pairs 2.0-litre turbo diesel (143kW/400Nm) with ninespeed transmission. Higher profile tyres and adjustable air suspension give All-Terrain a ride height of between 121mm and 156mm. Standard are LED multi-beam headlamps, underbody cladding, leather upholstery, a pair of 12.3-inch displays, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, active blind spot and lane-departure intervention semi
steering (when sensors detect lane markings).
Suzuki Swift, from $16,990 drive-away (est) The five-door only Swift hits dealerships June 6 and is expected to come with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder (67kW/120Nm) in the entry models and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo (82kW/ 170Nm) in higher-spec variant. Those numbers don’t sound huge but this is very light car at about 900kg. Transmission options will be a five-speed manual or CVT for the 1.2 and a six-speed auto
turbo engine. The Swift has always been car the young
young at heart, so latest iteration follows formula with a sharp shape, a dominant feature being “floating roofline” that hides the rear door handles. The Swift steps up on the digital front with Android/Apple mirroring via a seven-inch infotainment screen, reversing camera and 4.2-inch colour LCD driver’s display. Suzuki Australia has yet to announce pricing or content but expect top-spec variants pick up adaptive cruise control with autonomous emergency braking and lane-departure warning.
