The World’s Fastest Indian
SATURDAY Ten, 6.30pm, PG ( 2005)
Anthony Hopkins puts on his patented charm to play New Zealander Burt Munro, who, in 1967, set the land-speed world record on his souped-up 1920s motorbike. Hopkins plays Munro as a kindly, quaint and naive man, who speaks of his Indian motorcycle with an unabashed aff ection. In his retirement, he chases the dream of breaking the land-speed record at the Speed Week trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. After years in Hollywood making blockbusters like Species and Thirteen Days, director Roger Donaldson returned home to direct this stirring homage to his long-time hero.
