Monster’s Ball

SUNDAY Nine, 11.30pm, MA15+ ( 2001)

Geelong Advertiser - TV Guide - - MOVIES -

Powerhouse study of love and hate, directed with unnerving clarity by Marc Forster, that deservedly garnered Halle Berry the Oscar. In a racially divided contemporary Georgian town, reckless waitress Leticia ( Berry) unwittingly fi nds solace in the most unlikely of places – with Hank, the redneck prison guard ( Billy Bob Thornton) who oversaw her husband’s execution on death row. It’s a drama that will leave you reeling, without forcing its point – there isn’t a single second of screen time that Thornton and Berry come up for air, both of them fearlessly immersed in a harrowing journey of self-discovery.
