David Attenborough’s Gorilla

From the moment a silverback called Titus clambered onto his back during the making of the 1979 series Life on Earth, gorillas have been a favourite of Sir David Attenborough. In the making of this special, he and cameraman Gavin Thurston were given unprecedented freedom to journey deep into the heart of gorilla sanctuaries in the north of the Congo and follow and film a family of the great primates over several seasons. While there is surely no need to convince anyone that work must be done to save their dwindling populations, this is a wonderful reminder of how important the survival of these spectacular creatures is.
