Kicking off last week, this eight-part period drama follows the Moss family – Iris ( Catherine Tyldesley), May ( Leanne Rowe) and Ruby ( Kerrie Hayes), three sisters living with their widowed father and brother – as they try to make their way in the working class world of 1920s Liverpool. In the debut episode, the family struggled to scrape together money to give returning soldiers the homecoming they deserved, and this week, the Moss’s money woes continue, with the family forced to sell their pet rabbits to Domingo Hennessey ( John Donnelly), an ex-serviceman-turned-travelling magician for use in his act.

Bright outlook: Kerrie Hayes puts on a brave face as Ruby in Lilies.
