MR & MRS SMITH
NINE, Saturday, 9.40pm, M ( 2005)
Life isn’t all about candlelit dinners and trips to the country for suburbanites John and Jane Smith ( Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, pictured). Married for five years, both are unaware that they each have secret lives as contract killers. The cat is let out of the bag though, when the Smiths find themselves in opposition, gunning for the same target, and “’ til death us do part” takes on a whole new meaning. Whether it’s hardware or dinnerware, director Doug Liman ( The Bourne Identity) makes everything look cool, and amid the slabs of cheeky slapstick and gunplay, Pitt and Jolie generate more chemistry than a periodic table.
