SEVEN, Monday, 12pm, M ( 2005)

After conquering the music world, ultra- smooth hip- hop artist Usher makes his first play at the big screen with this vehicle from oncepromising director Ron Underwood ( City Slickers). He plays aspiring hip- hop DJ Darrell Williams, whose family friendship with mob boss Frank Pacelli ( Chazz Palminteri) and quick thinking during a drive- by shooting leads to a prime gig as bodyguard to Don Pacelli’s daughter Dolly ( Emmanuelle Chriqui, pictured). The gangster elements mix uneasily with the hip- hop thrust of the story, but Usher oozes charisma and his efforts should elicit swoons from fans.
