GO!, Tonight, 8.30pm, M ( 2004)
Oliver Stone’s threehour epic follows the final eight years in the life of Alexander the Great. At 25, the warrior king ( played by Colin Farrell, pictured) had conquered the entire known world by 331BC, after a series of bloody conflicts against the Persian Empire, Egypt and India. Featuring a running history lesson narrated by Anthony Hopkins as wise old Ptolemy, Stone tries too hard — it’s an unfocused mess that, against all odds, does entertain. The ridiculously coiffured Farrell is awful, and the other actors — including Val Kilmer, Angelina Jolie and Rosario Dawson — don’t come away unscathed.
