For many, Citizen Kane did for cinema what The Beatles did for music. With its simple story – the life of a mysterious media baron is told in flashback style with a reporter investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death – star, producer, director and co- writer Orson Welles ( above) enlightened filmgoers about the infinite power of the camera and the studio when used to optimum degree with immaculate scripting and fine actors. All these facets of filmmaking have rarely been matched – Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, which has drawn strong comparisons to this classic, is one of the few exceptions.
