LA VIE EN ROSE
SBS ONE, Tonight, 9.35pm, M ( 2007)
In biopics Ray and Walk the Line, the emphasis was on the dark side behind the public genius of their respective musical subjects and it’s no different with Olivier Dahan’s poignant tale of legendary French chanteuse Edith Piaf. From the slums of Paris to the limelight of New York, Marion Cotillard ( above) melts into her role as the troubled singer who crammed several lifetimes into her scant 47 years. Dahan masterfully draws his audience into Piaf’s tragic story by providing glimpses of her extraordinary life in whirling fragments of disconnected chronology. Cotillard’s Oscar- winning performance will keep you transfixed.
