This Joel and Ethan Coen film in the “idiot trilogy” for George Clooney, alongside O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty, isn’t exactly one of their more solemn efforts. The plot involves fitness instructors Chad and Linda ( Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand), who find a computer disk belonging to a former CIA agent ( John Malkovich) and see it as a ticket to wealth. The Coens’ focus is more on the tangle of relationships and banter than on presenting a straightforward story, but is a wonderful showcase of the Coens’ eccentric style. Splendid efforts from the cast ensure its place among their best comedies.
