THE SHINING

GO!, Wednesday, 9.30pm, AV15+ ( 1980)

Sparked by writer’s block and a series of paranormal encounters, Jack Torrance ( Jack Nicholson, pictured) turns on his increasingly hysterical wife ( Shelley Duvall) and haunted son ( Danny Lloyd), while acting as caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, during the snow season. Stanley Kubrick’s loose interpretation of the Stephen King novel is commonly cited as the truest horror film – one that creates an atmosphere of menace and foreboding through sheer power of sound, imagery and performance. Filled with classic lines (“Heeere’s Johnny”) and unforgettable sequences.
