The battle of the sexes again provides the predictable premise for this crude romantic comedy from Aussie director Robert Luketic ( Legally Blonde). Katherine Heigl stars as Abby, the uptight producer of a morning TV show who must resort to taking dating advice from misogynistic male correspondent Mike ( Gerard Butler). For a movie aimed at females, The Ugly Truth seems intent on setting the women’s movement back several decades. Heigl ( pictured) famously complained that Judd Apatow’s similarly smutty Knocked Up, in which she starred, was way too blokey and portrayed women as humourless shrews. But after this sexist romp, she owes him an apology. .
