That was es­pe­cially the case when it came to the Fans v Faves for­mat, which re­quired its renovators to ba­si­cally cre­ate some­thing out of noth­ing.

“It was a bap­tism of fire,” Steve said.

“I didn’t un­der­stand the com­plex­ity of the lo­ca­tion – I thought there would be apart­ments within the build­ing and it would be a mat­ter of go­ing in and de­sign­ing your own rooms.

“So when we walked in and there was noth­ing there, it was a com­plete shock.

“You get your pa­ram­e­ters and a very ba­sic plan about how the mak­ers of the show saw the build­ing shap­ing up. And be­cause we knew noth­ing about the build­ing process, the first steps were just mas­sive for us.”
