Sunday THE REAL MARY POPPINS
A timely documentary to coincide with the release of entertaining flick Saving Mr Banks, which tells the story of Walt Disney’s struggle to convince writer P. L. Travers to let him turn her novel into the magical film we all know today. Not many people know the story of Travers, particularly the fact she was Australian. But the story of the writer’s life is certainly an interesting one, and while there are parallels to be drawn to her iconic, sunny character, Travers’ existence was altogether a darker and somewhat lacking that “spoonful of sugar” charm. Using archive material and interviews ( including with the cast of the current film), it’s an interesting look into history.
