FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
GO!, Monday, 9.30pm, PG ( 1963)
More an espionage thriller than the usual Bondas- superhero caper, as Bond ( Sean Connery, left) heads into Turkey to retrieve a decoding machine for MI6. Problem is, there’s an assassin on his tail ( Robert Shaw) and a beautiful woman ( Daniela Bianchi) who is being used as a pawn by a SPECTRE double- agent ( Lotte Lenya) to get the machine. Three- time Bond director Terence Young’s stylish direction owes a big debt to Hitchcock, raising the suspense and avoiding the obvious goodversus- evil caricatures. The ultimate 007 film.
