LOSS CUTS DEEP FOR COUTAS
IT was a case of what could have been for Queenscliff, according to disappointed co-coach Andrew Hodgson.
The Coutas had been arguably the second best side all year but fell at the penultimate hurdle in Saturday’s preliminary final loss to Modewarre.
“Right now it’s probably a glass half-empty with what could’ve been,” Hodgson said. “It’s extremely disappointing. We’ve come into the finals really working hard to try and make a grand final and give ourselves a shot at a premiership and we obviously fell short.”
While the final score was disappointing, Hodgson was proud of the effort of his side against a Warriors outfit that had put together an excellent performance when it mattered most.
“I think we wanted to be harder to play against and that wasn’t just hard at the footy, it was hard with running, hard attack on the man and hard for our teammates, but unfortunately we fell short,” Hodgson said.
“Modewarre were really good and they’ve played some super footy in the back half of the year and they probably outplayed us today and they got the result in the end.”
It was a heartbreaking way to finish the season for Hodgson’s side but the coach said the year as a whole was one to be remembered.
“We took steps forward, played three finals and I think we can take a lot out of it,” he said.
“I’m sure it will drive the group leading into next year and improving to chase Geelong Amateur, to chase Modewarre and to stay ahead of the rest.”
