A MEL­BOURNE fam­ily pre­par­ing to re­lo­cate to Gee­long with WorkSafe was cel­e­brat­ing on Satur­day af­ter buy­ing a ren­o­vated cot­tage in Gee­long West.

Amelia Ver­coe and Akaash Dhillon can­not wait to move down the high­way and into 1 Thomas St with their sev­en­month-old Ari.

They bought the three­bed­room house for $672,000 at auc­tion, hold­ing their nerve to fend off one other con­tender through 16 bids.

“We are so ex­cited about mov­ing down,” Ms Ver­coe said. “We just can’t wait to be able to walk to work and Akaash is start­ing uni next year, so he will be able to walk to uni.” She said they had been search­ing for a fam­ily home across in­ner sub­urbs like East Gee­long and Gee­long West for a few months. But they were rapt to have found one with a child­care cen­tre nearby and with a cafe and shopping strip within walk­ing dis­tance. Mr Dhillon said they were also look­ing for­ward to get­ting away from the Mel­bourne traf­fic. “It’s per­fect tim­ing for us,” he said.
