AN af­ter­noon of mu­si­cal mem­o­ries will take you on a jour­ney from early mil­i­tary bands and lo­cal dance bands through to the Queen­scliff Mu­sic Fes­ti­val. Old pho­tographs and film footage will take you back to a colour­ful time in the bor­ough when week­end dances brought the town to life. At the Mon­a­han sport­ing com­plex, Hesse St, from 4pm to­day. To­mor­row the story of Al­fred Deakin, The Man Who Dreamed Aus­tralia is told in a mu­si­cal bi­og­ra­phy as Colin Mock­ett and Shirley Power use their trade­mark for­mat of im­ages, nar­ra­tion and songs to bring his story to life in the Coach House at the Vue Grand Ho­tel from 3pm. ARTISTS from the Gee­long School of Botan­i­cal Art will be dis­play­ing more than works cre­ated in the past two years. This bi­en­nial event is on un­til Oc­to­ber 29 at art@win­ter­gar­den on McKil­lop St. The gallery is open daily from 10am-4pm. ARTISTS from around the Gee­long re­gion will have their lat­est works on dis­play at Shear­ers Arms Vis­ual Arts Cen­tre & Gallery in cel­e­bra­tion of the 2017 Vic­to­rian Se­niors Fes­ti­val. The ex­hi­bi­tion will run un­til Oc­to­ber 28 and the gallery is open from Tues­day-Fri­day 11am-3pm, Satur­day and Sun­day 1pm-4pm. THIS ex­hi­bi­tion brings to­gether paint­ings, draw­ings and etch­ings that rep­re­sent a turn­ing THE Gee­long Sculp­tors com­mu­nity group is cel­e­brat­ing its 15th an­niver­sary, us­ing the ex­hi­bi­tion gallery in­side the Sally Walker Build­ing at Deakin Uni­ver­sity’s water­front cam­pus for this year’s an­nual ex­hi­bi­tion. The ex­hi­bi­tion is open week­days from 10am-4pm un­til Oc­to­ber 31. AWARD-WIN­NING Surf Coast writer Janet Brown presents her play The Hope Song at the An­gle­sea Me­mo­rial Hall. The play will be told ver­ba­tim from in­ter­views with those who have men­tal health chal­lenges. The play runs at 1B McMil­lan St, An­gle­sea un­til Oc­to­ber 21.

A band marches along Queen­scliff’s Hesse St. point in Fred Wil­liams’ art. The You Yangs are the re­cur­ring fo­cus of Wil­liams’ paint­ings through­out the 1960s and 1970s. It’s on show un­til Novem­ber 5 at the Gee­long Gallery in Lit­tle Malop St.
