AN afternoon of musical memories will take you on a journey from early military bands and local dance bands through to the Queenscliff Music Festival. Old photographs and film footage will take you back to a colourful time in the borough when weekend dances brought the town to life. At the Monahan sporting complex, Hesse St, from 4pm today. Tomorrow the story of Alfred Deakin, The Man Who Dreamed Australia is told in a musical biography as Colin Mockett and Shirley Power use their trademark format of images, narration and songs to bring his story to life in the Coach House at the Vue Grand Hotel from 3pm. ARTISTS from the Geelong School of Botanical Art will be displaying more than works created in the past two years. This biennial event is on until October 29 at art@wintergarden on McKillop St. The gallery is open daily from 10am-4pm. ARTISTS from around the Geelong region will have their latest works on display at Shearers Arms Visual Arts Centre & Gallery in celebration of the 2017 Victorian Seniors Festival. The exhibition will run until October 28 and the gallery is open from Tuesday-Friday 11am-3pm, Saturday and Sunday 1pm-4pm. The exhibition is open weekdays from 10am-4pm until October 31. AWARD-WINNING Surf Coast writer Janet Brown presents her play The Hope Song at the Anglesea Memorial Hall. The play will be told verbatim from interviews with those who have mental health challenges. The play runs at 1B McMillan St, Anglesea until October 21.
