WC opinions flushed out

Geelong Advertiser - - WEEKEND EXTRA -

After reports saying the toilets frequented by tourists along the Great Ocean Road are “disgracefully substandard” there’s been a suggestion of “user pays” instead of free for all?

Pretty sure using a toilet is a basic human right. Janakan Seemampillai

If there were public toilets along the G.O.R. someone would have to clean them. The council does not seem to want to employ anyone to work on weekends and public holidays to clean dirty dunnies or empty rubbish receptacles either Lachlan Cairney

Free! It’s a civil right. Unlike in Eu- rope. Everywhere you go they charge you to pee. Demelza Ocasic

Free. When ya got to go you got to go. Fiona Cauchi

No. The local council is making plenty off tourists and spending nothing on the roads or development in the area so they can employ people to take care of the limited amenities. Nicole Lee

Same. I live in the area. The rates are very high. Yet simple facilities such as toilets cannot even be cleaned regularly. Ashleigh Kelly

Definitely free. We aren’t Europe. Half the time there’s no toilet paper. Fiona Ryan

What toilets? There’s hardly any anyway. Craig Anderson

It needs a bus bay in Apollo Bay with facilities, so when the tourists get off the buses they can go to a toilet. The buses are pulling up in a street, behind the shops and people are opening people’s front gates and going to the toilet near their bins. Joanne Harrison

I don’t use them. But they should be clean as a whistle seeing we get a lot overseas tourists using them. Hilary Elizabeth Edwick

User paid, the self-cleaning toilets are great. Nice and clean. The state of most public toilets is a disgrace. Michael Zimnyckyj

Definitely user pays. Overseas we paid $1 per visit. Come on Surf Coast Shire — action this for the big tourist venues on the GOR. Ian Treloar
