Geelong Advertiser - - SPORT - ALEX TIGANI

BELMONT Lions president George Baker has confirmed star utility Michael Leamer has called time on his impressive stint at the Winter Reserve.

After a long discussion, the 29-year-old Leamer told the GDFL club his departure was for family reasons.

“He’s been a valued mem- ber of the club, we have a great relationship with him and we want to wish him all the best with his future,” Baker said yesterday.

“We sat down and spoke to him today and he’s indicated he wanted to move on due to family reasons.”

Leamer arrived at the club from Queensland side Kedron, where he booted 111 goals across 44 games in various di- visions. He made an immediate impact at Belmont, booting seven goals in the side’s 82point win over rival East Geelong in Round 1, 2015.

“He may have only been down at Belmont for a short time but he’s won two bestand-fairest awards, so his name will always be on our honour board and he’ll always be welcome back at the club,” Baker said.
